Be Prepared and Many Happy Returns may have various meanings to different people, depending on whether you were a boy scout, having a birthday, or, preparing for the *big* day. "And what might that day be?" you may well ask! If I said "The Tax Man Cometh", the penny should drop. Or is it a twoonie now?!

Roger Taillon sends us a great site in which you may peruse the latest in tax software. When I checked in, the software had not been updated since last year, but, do not let that stop you from reading all the critiques. The editors choices were narrowed down to two software packages, (Am I glad I have one of these.), and their comments are that next year (which is really now), there should be fewer entries and not much change in their picks. A great page to get the low-down on many of the favourite packages.

Remember, Revenue Canada does not finalize their forms until Jan, so if you purchased a package prior to Jan, there may be a change provided for by the manufacturer of the software. Last year was the first time I tried out a package. Just before leaving on a trip close to the end of April, I decided to do the right thing and prepare my taxes so that would be one less item to tackle on my return home. Much to my surprise, on opening up the software package for the first time, there it was - the notice to call for the free upgrade! A couple of faxes, e-mails and phone calls pleading for rapid assistance were cheerfully forthcoming, but not until my return did I receive the software, just in the nick of time! By the end of the week, a total of at least five software packages had been dropped off on my doorstep, and one for good measure the following week. Talk about service. Needless to say, the same updated software will be used again this year.

A LATE FLASH FROM VINCE COURTEMANCHE:
Marion, people may be interested in downloading for free a Canadian Income Tax program called Cool Tax. It takes about 28 minutes to do so, is too large for a floppy and must be put on the harddrive. I have just finished using it and it is excellent. It is the T1 General Form with all necessary forms for all provinces. Just put in the numbers from your T slips, it computes, prints on demand in the exact form as the Govt. forms.
Thanks for this Vince, much appreciated!!!
